Damien Hirst – Isocytosine

Damien Hirst, Isocytosine is an original woodcut.  This print is signed on the front and numbered on the reverse from the edition of 55.

Damien Hirst is the most prominent of the Young British Artists (YBAs) that emerged in the 1990s. Like many of the YBAs, Hirst confronts big themes head on, including life, death, science, and religion. His mixed-media sculptures are created from a frequently controversial assortment of formaldehyde-suspended carcasses, cigarette butts, pharmaceutical packaging, and surgical instruments, often encased in glass vitrines.

Hirst is renowned for his Butterfly Series, in which Hirst arranged thousands of butterfly wings in a mandala-like pattern. Another popular Hirst series are the ‘Spin’ paintings. Damien Hirst designed the sets for Glastonbury, a play about the Glastonbury music festival, and Hirst designed and directed Breath, the 30-45 second film version of Samuel Beckett’s 1969 short.
