Angels of Etz Chaim (The Tree of Life)

Angels of Etz Chaim (The Tree of Life), 2017 by Daniel Kaufman is an original manipulated wax on panel painting.  It is signed on the front, titled and dated on the back.

Daniel Kaufman’s life as a visual artist began over half a century ago when his father gave him a Nikon camera for his Bar Mitzvah.  Daniel studied photography and art history at Amherst College where he graduated in 1973. Over thirty years ago Kaufman devoted himself to painting after a very successful career in photography.  As a photographer he felt unsatisfied, as if he were “walking on the surface of the ocean of art.” He wanted more from photography than he was able to find.

Apprenticing himself to the internationally exhibited painter, Max Shertz, Daniel began to appreciate the underpinnings of art and his own consciousness. Whereas photography began on the surface, painting involved transcending the surface and giving expression to the Source of all creativity, what Max calls the Inner Artist. Daniel’s efforts to create art are now concerned with stilling the mind of preconceptions, silencing the ever-dominating ego, and going beyond personal fears to arrive at a completely humbling and liberating art.

“The emphatic potential of color allows me to express the microcosm of flowers and the microcosm of astral imagery, emerging constellations and stellar pulsation.”

“Color empowers me to create, in the words of the great painter Richard Pousette-Dart, “the cosmos for man”, which I believe is the role of the artists. This all-encompassing energy that permeates nature, the universe and the cosmos is the essence of my art.”
