LA Monopoly

LA Monopoly, 2018 by Kristin Simmons is an original work of acrylic and mixed media on canvas. The piece is comprised of 48 x 60 inch canvas + (22) 8 x 6 inch tiles. This unique three-dimension piece is an LA version developed from her NY Monopoly piece and created specifically for her first Los Angeles solo exhibition “American Excess” shown at Denis Bloch Fine Art in Beverly Hills, 2018.

Having grown up in New York City, Simmons draws major inspiration from her experience of a culture of excess. Her series explore themes of ownership by portraying the excessive and myopic outlook of Wall Street. Simmons appropriates and parodies the very industry and culture they represent.  This piece recalls the enduring themes of money, morality, and gender-biased culture.
