Gerard Economos Art For Sale
Of Greek ancestry, Gérard Economos was born in Paris in 1935. Since 1978, Economos has resided in Guadalajara, Mexico, a city that has become his refuge from a very busy world traveling schedule. He studied Architecture and Urbanism at the Fine Arts School in Paris and launched his career as a painter in 1953. In time he established close relationships with many artistic and literary icons, among them Jean Cocteau, Michel del Castillo, Lawrence Durrell and Jean Giono. In 2005, the French Government awarded him the highest distinction in France, the “Legion d’Honeur” medal.
Economos has exhibited his work in the best art galleries and museums in Europe, the United States, Asia and Latin America. In 1968, the City of Paris sponsored a travelling exhibit with 100 of his paintings. In 1972, the same exhibit was also shown in various American countries. His paintings and murals embellish important financial institutions, VIP Lounges at International Airports and also the main entrance to Paris’ Town Hall (Hotel de Ville).
In addition to his world-renowned paintings, Gerard Economos has also illustrated numerous literary works such as Rombaldi’s Nobel Prize Collection, has designed book covers and has contributed illustrations to French firms such as Cacharel, Charles Jourdan, and Renault. Economos has designed posters for several art festivals in France and has created large-scale paintings that decorate the first-class section of Air France’s 747s, an airline that has sponsored Economos for the last several years.
