Henri Matisse, Nice Travail et Joie is an original vintage lithograph poster in ten colors created in 1948. “Travail et Joie – Ville de Nice” was created for the City of Nice, France to promote tourism to the region. Printed by Mourlot, Paris.  Sauret 40.

Nice and the Côte d’Azur (also known as the French Riviera) is located on the Mediterranean coastline in the south of France. The warm climate and vivid colors of Nice and the Côte d’Azur attracted many famous artists during the first half of the 20th century including Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse.  Matisse spent much of his later life – some 37 years – in or around Nice. The city salutes him with a museum dedicated entirely to the artist. The Rosary Chapel – by Matisse’s own estimation, his masterpiece – is just up the road.
