Pablo Picasso, Hibou Blanc sur Fond Rouge is a ceramic plate sculpture made in 1957.  Referred to as a “turned round dish” in the Alain Ramie Catalogue (Ceramic Works 1947-1971), this work features red earthenware clay, decoration in engobes, knife engraving, and a decorated back.  It is numbered from the edition of 200, stamped ‘Madoura’ and ‘Edition Picasso’ on the verso.  Ramie 395.

Picasso created thousands of ceramic pieces between 1947-1971, some of which were produced in limited numbers and with exclusive rights by Madoura Pottery in Vallauris, where Suzanne and Georges Ramie welcomed him in 1946.
