This Jean Cocteau portrait features actor/muse Jean Marais. In 1937, a 24 year old Marais saw a show of Cocteau drawings and was so taken with them he decided that he had to meet him. Within ten days of meeting Cocteau, Marais had completely fallen in love with him. Cocteau and Marais soon became the most notorious couple in Paris. After the war, Cocteau and Marais made many remarkable films together including Beauty and the Beast (1946), Les Parents Terribles (1948), Orpheus (1949) and Coriolan (1950).
