The Côte d’Azur and Nice (also known as the French Riviera) is located on the Mediterranean coastline in the south of France. The warm climate and vivid colors of Nice and the Côte d’Azur attracted many famous artists during the first half of the 20th century including Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse. Picasso moved to Provence in the South of France towards the latter part of his life, where he spent the happiest and most productive years of his life. Picasso left a strong mark in the South of France, both culturally and emotionally.
