The Pablo Picasso Vollard Suite is compiled of 100 intaglio prints created during the 1930’s, named after Picasso’s Art Dealer and PublisherAmroise Vollard. The Vollard Suite contains many themes which reveal Picasso’s obsession with classically derived subjects from Ovid’s Metamorphosis including the story of theMinotaur (the man-beast) and Pygmalion (the artist obsessed with the model). Somewhat auto-biographical The Vollard Suite exposes both Picasso’s public and private personas, particularly through its concentration on the artist in his studio, and the artist with the model. At the time Picasso was engaged in a love affair with the main subject of much of the Suite Vollard, Picasso’s young model Marie Therese.
